Truth
Through Trauma
Beyond the work
The story behind the voice, the work, and the purpose.
Hi, I’m Kessia Davies.
Before the work, before the speaking, before Truth Through Trauma, there was just me navigating experiences I didn’t yet have the language for.
I’m a care leaver who was later adopted. My journey has been shaped by domestic violence, sexual assault, grooming, and exploitation, alongside experiences within the criminal justice system.
For a long time, my life was influenced by systems that didn’t always understand me, and environments that expected me to survive without support.
There were moments I didn’t think I would make it this far. But I did.
And that reality sits at the core of everything I do.
I don't just speak from lived experience. I translate it into understanding, accountability, and change.
What I’ve lived through didn’t just impact me, it shaped how I think, how I challenge systems, and how I work with others.
It’s why I question how we label “complex cases.”
It’s why I push for professionals to look beyond behaviour.
And it’s why my work is rooted in truth, not just theory.
My approach is trauma-informed, but it’s also lived, reflective, and intentional. I don’t share my story for impact alone, I use it to shift perspectives and improve practice.
This is only part of my story.
I’m currently developing future projects, including writing that explores identity, belonging, race, and the realities of navigating systems as someone who has lived within them.
These conversations go beyond safeguarding. They speak to who we are, how we’re seen, and where we feel we belong.
I’m still evolving. Still learning. Still building.
But my story didn’t end where it could have.
It became the reason I do what I do.
